A Roof Top Tent Is One of the Best Tents You Can Buy

If you love going camping then you've got plenty of options. Camping is probably one of the best ways to pass time with the family and to introduce your children to the delights of the outdoors.

But of course if you love camping you need camping equipment. Camping equipment always includes some form of accommodation. Your accommodation might be in a caravan or some form of recreational vehicle, but my preference is always a tent.

In the past a tent was just a tent. However there's very clever people have come up with some very clever variations on the theme, and the one that I love the most is the roof tent.

A roof top tent, as the name suggests, is a tent that is located on on the roof of your car. When you're driving it's all very craftily packed away on your roof, and when you stop you just put it up.

The roof tent stays on the roof of your vehicle, it is not taken off or removed and taken down. Your car becomes a little like a turtle, with your house on your back.

It's very simple to pop up your tent on the roof of your vehicle. A rooftop tent of course is off the ground, so commonly you need a ladder to access the sleeping area on the roof.

Some roof tents simply offer sufficient room for 2 while others have a drop-down awning made of canvas which also makes a secure and weatherproof area for cooking, or for 2 more people to sleep, usually the kids.

Generally speaking a roof top tent will only sleep two in comfort, so if you're camping with the family you will need to bring some other form of accommodation for the kids. A simple 2 or 3 man tent will do fine. Unless of course you buy a canvas drop down for your roof tent.

But if you're camping as a couple you'll find that a roof tent is one of the simplest, easiest and most convenient ways to carry your house with you wherever you go, a
