What You Need To Know About Parking At The Airport

By Larry Oaks

It is a great idea to study up on the ins and outs of airport parking if your vacation or business trip requires you to leave your car at the airport. It is not only airport security that has increased drastically since terrorist attacks began happening all over the world, now even airport parking is more secure.

Before you even consider leaving your house it is a good idea to call ahead and find out what the parking situation is like at your chosen airport. You will need to find out what they require to use their long-term parking, whether they have off-site parking or whether there is a shuttle bus service dedicated to them. You car being towed, fines and even a longer search period before you can board your flight, all this can happen because you parked in the wrong place.

Most airports parking is sectioned off into three different categories, off site, long-term and drop off. Meant for minutes and not hours, drop off parking is specifically designed for the dropping off of passengers waiting for their flight. This zone is watched continually by security personnel who will be suspicious if they notice that your car has been standing unattended for more than the time it takes to drop off a passenger.

Long-term parking at an airport is set aside for those individuals who are flying from the airport. Long-term parking is usually located somewhere on airport property but a safe distance from the actual terminal. Long-term parking is usually accompanied by a shuttle bus service to get you to the terminal. Most airports will charge you a fee for using the long-term parking facilities, many airports will charge you by the day. So it is important to enquire about these fee's before hand to avoid a nasty shock.

The last option that is often available is that of off-site parking. A Shuttle bus frequented off-site parking facility is normally located near to the airport. Many times there are fees associated with this option, but these fees will be a lot lower than those that you can find in the long-term section of airport parking. It is not normal for airport security to be patrolling off-site parking facilities, which may need to factor into your plans.

Many hotels offer a shuttle service to and from their local airport, which can be a great help when traveling from city to city. Many hotels do this for their guests for free. It is for this very reason that many travelers book with these hotels because they find it relaxing not having to worry about transport to and from their hotel.

No matter whether you are going on vacation or a business trip, this is important information to keep in mind. It is one less thing on your mind if you have sorted out your parking arrangements before hand.
