Is there such thing as a quiet Ibiza holiday?

By Nadia Jung

Ibiza may be the clubbing capital of the world, but in a way this island is still misunderstood. Although it can boast a world-class clubbing scene, this Balearic island has a much quieter side where visitors can go to relax and unwind, whether it's to take a break from a clubbing vacation, or for an entire relaxing stay.

Undeniably a quintessential Mediterranean island, Ibiza offers luscious woodland, hidden beaches and quaint villages which are dotted throughout the landscape. The quieter and less populous part of the island is the north, where visitors can, amongst other delights, visit Cala Xarraca and Cala Xucla which are two coves with a dense pine-tree backdrop that give them a secluded feel.

As mentioned, there are many pretty villages located through the landscape and on the coast, like Santa Agnes, which all give the island a humble, peaceful aura. But for those who would rather have a few more facilities on their holiday doorstep, then the beach resort of Santa Eulalia is ideal. Although the island's third largest resort, there are only a handful of bars and NO clubs, as well as marina and art galleries which all help ensure this beach resort has a slower pace of life.

Of course quiet holidays aren't necessarily just about sitting still; there are some invigorating but tame activities you can do on the island that are away from the crowds. Take a hike over one of the pine-covered mountain-sides, go snorkelling in the turquoise waters from one of the northern coves, or head to Cala Salada and watch the sun set behind the islets of Sa Conillera and Bosc.

Really, the clubbing scenes are limited to the main busy resorts, especially Ibiza Town and San Antonio. There are various resorts, villas and apartments located around the island in some slightly more secluded areas, but the best way to experience the quieter side of Ibiza is to splash out on one of the island's luxury hotels where water features and cocktail bars await peace-seeking holiday makers.
