Airplane Hangars And More

By Elena Fallert

If you think about it, there can be very many options that you can choose from when you need to have a venue for an auction event but despite the numerous options, your mind did not ever try to envision standing inside a hangar, looking out towards the runway. No you did not hear it wrongly, I really did said "runway".

Personally, I see running a benefit auction as equal and the same as to running a small business. Because most small businesses will have gross incomes of less than $100,000, there are really very many non profit auctions that would rival the income of a small business. Being the chair of a certain auction, there is a need for you to think of it as running a business. You have got to have the right tools to be able to run the operation. There are bascially two tools to act as a guide and to help make planning the auction easier.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Transportation Museums are on a Roll was a story that was written and part of the August 2009 issue of Small Market Meetings Why are we talking about this? Basically because the article was about the many types of events held in transportation museums.

Although it can be also fun to have it in a transportation museum, I have not yet really tried it. What I have tried many times was conducting fundraising auctions in transportation facilities. Furthermore, this article covers a charity auction held in an executive airplane hangar.

In considering whether to attend your auction fundraiser or not, the guest will do a double-take when it will be in an unusual place.

They would probably say, "The party will be held in (specify the place). Nice."

When there will be another event that they would also attend and it has the same time as yours, they would go for the one that is a bit strange and intriguing. Yes you will be chosen because of the unique auction venue. It is the nature of a person to always go for the one that he does not usually see everyday.

When you are going to host a very big event, airplane hangars are a great choice to opt for. Let us see for example the hangar in Kissimmee, FL, where it is about 10,000 sq. ft., making it possible to accommodate 1,500 people seated or 2,000 for receptions.

There are some precautions that must be considered by the auction committees when booking a nontraditional space. All venues have different challenges. See to it that you have taken some time to tour the site and imagine the flow, and food stations, and silent auction tables, and all those things good Auction Chairs consider when they are sorting through an auction gala's festivities in their mind's eye.

* The wide open space you can have with the setting can let the auction procurement and decor committees to have a great flexibility in adjusting the facility to meet their needs. Let us say that a big hangar can have lots of space for 200 guests.

* Given a super-slick, bright white concrete floor can let your high heels slip more easily and - vice versa - any heels or other shoe soles that were made of the wrong material can be rough to a super-clean, high-tech floor.
