Is Your Home Ready for Trick or Treating?

By Andy Kongsri

Listed below are five ideas for preparing your home for Trick or Treating this Halloween

1. Because people will be coming to your front door for their Halloween treats, it is a good idea to make your home as welcoming as you can, and as safe as possible. A good idea is to make sure your porch light is on during the trick or treating hours. This enables others to feel welcome to come to your home, and the light on will create a feeling of being safe.

2. Your decorations need to be organised. People are much more likely to visit homes that are decorated for Halloween, showing that the people in the home, are having as much fun as those out trick or treating. Elaborate and expensive decorations are not necessary. Your home can look and feel creepy simply by having some well positioned pumpkins, and maybe some other simple but spooky additions.

3. Are you someone who has pets in your home? Dogs in particular should be kept out of reach of the entrance used by those trick or treating, no matter how well the animal relates to children normally. Some dogs may get spooked by some of the costumes that will be appearing at the door, so there is no guarantee that your pet will act as normally as they usually do.

4. Grab a large bowl from the cupboard, one that you will use for the candy. Trick or treaters will be looking out for this bowl, so it is one of the most important things to get ready for Halloween. You can even do this and put the bowl on your porch, if you are not going to be at home. All you need is some sort of sign that says "Happy Halloween - Please Help Yourself!"

5. Be sure that the path to your front door is safe and clear. Turn off your sprinklers for the evening, and clear any stones, toys, and other items away from the walkway so trick-or-treaters will be safe as they walk up to your door. Check that the walkway is well-lit, too.
