As she predicted there were no male heirs for almost the entire century until 1895 when the river froze and a white deer was born; a son was born that year, the first in the family for more than 80 years and the curse was lifted. The poor beggar woman's ghost is still occasionally seen by members of the family.

A group of ancient standing stones which apparently contain the spirits of Long Meg the witch and her daughter who were all turned to stone by a famous 13th century magician.
