Bang Tao is situated on the west coast of the island of Phuket, and is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of beach resorts such as Patong and Phuket. You can find cheaper accommodation too, starting from just under $50 a night, but the beach resort is famous for its luxurious accommodation, which is not in a high-rise, impersonal building. You can get a taste of how Thais live when they are not involved in the tourist trade. There are nearby temples to visit and you should look out for the gigantic Banyan tree at the resort named after it.
In fact you can get up close to the tropical vegetation and sit under the shady trees in so many of the hotel gardens in Bang Tao, sipping a cocktail and relaxing, although you might be wise to cover yourself in lemon juice to keep the bugs away.
