How To Survive A Michigan Royal Rangers Winter Camp

By Kenneth Stewart

Sometimes people need to go out as a group to get away from the daily routine which might be a bit boring. When people choose to go on a Michigan Royal Rangers winter camp, they might want to put various measures to ensure that the weather does not affect them health wise and their camping activities. The measures are as follows.

The destination chosen is important. Different areas have different climatic conditions, and research should be conducted to choose the area that suits everyone in the group. While some enjoy extremely cold climates, others like moderate ones. The organizers should consider what is suitable for the majority and since they are young boys, a moderate climate is advisable.

The importance of the weather forecast is to enable you to make the necessary plan on their activities of that particular day. Check what the weatherman says about the climatic conditions for the days you are planning to be on the site. You will be in a position to know what to carry and how to handle certain extreme conditions like storms.

When outdoors, it is almost impossible to control the conditions as there are no air conditioning machines like it is in the house. People have to therefore try as much as possible to keep warm. Heavy clothes should be put on both at night and during the day. The bags should be packed with all types or warm clothing from gloves, socks, boots and even heavy jackets to keep every part of the body covered.

Think of the many equipment that will be of use to you while out there. Things like sleeping bags will be needed at night to make the individuals warmer and more comfortable. Lamps are important too for lighting inside the tents as one cannot light a fire inside. A stove will help a lot especially when you want to melt frozen water in order to get some for drinking.

The weather will require people to keep warm at all times, even during the day. This means that a lot of firewood will be consumed and carrying a lot of it is important. People should not assume that they will collect firewood in the bushes near the sites. This may not be possible as the one outside will be wet due to the climatic conditions and may not light.

Even without camping, food during the cold season plays a major role in warming the body. A hungry person is inactive and requires something to give them energy for them to perform their daily activities. Teens are known to eat a lot and since they will be the ones forming the larger part of your group you need to carry as much food as possible.

These nights are usually very long compared to other times. Come up with activities to keep you occupied during the night. They may include storytelling, sharing and even debates. If the young boys get bored, they may not want to be part of such a mission again especially if it involves the extreme weather conditions. The activities will also help cheer up their mood.
