Weather can change any moment. It is good to consider such changes while doing preparations.

Backcountry is a home to animals such as black bears, grizzly bears and cougars. No one will feel safe in case he or she encounters any of the aforementioned animals. Moving alone is highly prohibited. When you are many, fighting a bear is easier than when you are alone. During the trip ensure you have bear spray. Shouting loudly when you come across to blind corners, streams and dense shrubs is helpful.

Loose dogs do not only attract, but also irritate bears. This is one of reasons you should not carry your pet to such kind of environment. Avoid areas that show signs of bear activities like fresh digging, claw marks and also bear scat. In case you are to cook while in the trip, ensure cooking site is more than 100 meters from sleeping point. Do store food within the tents.

All food remains should be packed within sealed bags. Scented items and food remains should be hanged about 100 meters from sleeping areas. Do not sleep while in clothes that you were in while cooking. This will ensure that bears are not attracted to the sleeping site, hence causing disturbance.

It is not recommendable to drop litter anyhow. Collecting fossils, artifacts, wildflowers and rocks is highly prohibited. Consider taking photographs rather than collecting them. If you are to cross streams or rivers you must be extremely careful. Waterways tend to be very cold and may affect your health negatively if you happen to come into contact with them.
