Top Speed Reading Tips For Fast Reading And Comprehension

By Patricia Wright

If you are a slow reader, it might take you a long time to get through a book. This will mean that you can't read a lot of stuff therefore, limiting how much you can learn. However, you can change this if you want. There are techniques for fast reading that anyone can learn. These techniques can easily be grasped and you can start using them immediately.

Stay focused on the task. Do not let your mind wander off to other things. If you find that you are starting to think about other things, bring your thoughts back to what you are doing. This will help you to train your mind to stay focused. If you let your mind wander, you will be stuck going through the same thing over and over.

Create the right ambiance for the task. This requires that you sit properly and position yourself well. For instance, you will do much better to read while you are seated rather than while you are lying on your bed. When you are lying down, your body relaxes and you can easily drift off to sleep. You will also do much better if you read while the book is placed at an angle, so you can prop up your book when you are carrying out the task from a table.

Avoid repeating the material. As you read, go through the book once without having to go over words again. This will save you lots of time. Avoid skipping back to words that you have read before. The best way to do this is to use your finger to point at words as you read along. Your eyes should follow your fingers if you want to read quickly then move your finger along at a fast speed.

Choose the right time to read. This will help you get a lot done since your mind and body will still be fresh, so you will feel energized enough to tackle this task. For most people, this is early in the day but feel free to choose whatever time that works for you. Start by reading things that are of high interest to you first.

Look over the material first before you start going through it. Check how it has been divided into sections and see what is important to you. You can now pay more attention to the important bits, while skimming over the other parts that you may not be so interested in.

Try and do away with anything that will distract you from the task. The best way to do this is to read in a quiet room or in a library. Alternatively, you can read when everyone else is out or when everyone is sleeping. This will minimize interruptions.

Join a class where you will be taught how to read at a high speed. There are online classes as well as physical classes. This will help you to improve your skill greatly, seeing that you will be getting professional help. You will also have the support of other students in the class, who are also trying to know how to read fast. This will help to boost your morale.
