Travel has changed extensively in the last few decades, and especially of late with the inception of the Internet that has made the world a much smaller place. Today, people see some of the most incredible places online, and want to get there to see it with their own eyes. Below, discover unforgettable Antarctic cruises from Ushuaia, Argentina.

While there are many beautiful destinations in the world, there are few that can offer this much. Bounded by the Beagle Channel to the south, and a beautiful mountain range to the north, it is known as the world's southernmost city. It's situated on a wide bay, where many cruises begin and end.

Although it is located in such proximity to the Antarctic, it's odd that its winters are not exceptionally cold. It dips just under the freezing mark in its coldest month, which happens to be July, and its warmest month is January. However, the climate is quite humid, and summers bring on lots of clouds and wind, while winters bring on rain showers and snowfalls.

What's wonderful about the southern latitude is that it provides plenty of daylight hours. For instance, in summer, one can expect approximately 17 hours of daylight, while winter has only seven hours. Furthermore, being a major tourist destination, it has lots to offer its local and international tourists.

There are cruises that take them to numerous Antarctic islands, like the South Shetland Islands and the South Sandwich Islands. The port is also synonymous with scientific expeditions as well. This commercial pier is the point of departure for these and vacation cruises such as to the Falkland Islands.

In the past, Ushuaia was actually a penal colony specific to both dangerous offenders as well as real offenders. This prison has now turned into a museum that's open to the public, just one more thing for tourists to take in, aside from the raw natural beauty, like its beautiful bays and majestic glaciers. Of course, there are also the most beautiful and memorable sunsets just waiting to be experienced.

As it is only the beginning of one's trip, they will be filled with memories that will last a lifetime because it's an ideal destination for virtually anything any tourists expect on their vacation. There's great shopping, hiking, skiing, dining, and more. From there, tourists can experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip, seeing thousands of penguins and incredible icebergs. It's different from what anyone can ever expect because of its harsh beauty and impressive wildlife.

The important thing is to remember to pack appropriately for this type of cruise. It's not one's typical vacation, where bathing suits are the norm. Instead, this requires thermal underwear, gloves, and waterproof outerwear from head to toe. A good camera with lots of batteries and pair of binoculars will allow one to really experience their vacation to the most. Plus, for the most part, it's a casual affair, although there are some cruise ships that do offer more formal evenings.
