Using Your Garments As Packing Components For Your Moving Effort

By Sharonne Penickata

Those who are not familiar with the moving process often believe that packing away their clothing is something which should wait until the complete last minute. After all, you will need your clothes in order to stay decent and working right until the moving date, they reason. Unfortunately, nothing might be farther from the right way of approaching the moving. Whether you are relocating to Kentucky or other state in the country, you need to know that your entire closet must not be hanging up prior to moving day.

About a month prior to your moving date, choose seven outfits for each member of the family. This will include pants, shirts, undergarments, and socks. Make this selection, narrowing it down to only seven daily outfits for each and every member of your family. For individuals who require professional clothing for work, select five of such outfits too. Everything that is not included in these outfit selections should be packed away together with your other belongings in planning for your move.

While you can easily fill up boxes along with your clothes, there are other options that you can take which will permit you to get better overall mileage out of your moving supplies. These tricks will save you money, and help to protect your other items from possible damage during the move. To start, have your loved ones place their larger garments they are not keeping out in a centralized place. Undergarments could be packed away, but shirts and pants can be useful in other boxes.

Once you encounter something that is fragile, something that you are worried will end up breaking through the move, spend some time to grab an article of clothing from your communal pile. Wrap an item up in a shirt or a couple of pants, folding the edges down neatly on the outside. You don't want to use tape on your own daughter's favorite dress shirt, but the clothing itself should stay mostly set up without it. Lay the item within the box and pack it away. The clothing will serve the same purpose as bubble wrap or packing peanuts do, however with the additional benefit of no additional cost for you.

While you work your way through your home, you will find that you end up spending additional time wrapping items in articles of clothing than you ever thought possible. You might actually use up all your clothes prior to the process is finished. This really is okay, though. At this time, you know that you've saved all of the money you might by using the clothing as packing materials.

Your movers won't be aware of difference between clothing or standard packing materials. They are going to haul the sealed boxes the same, and you can rest easy, understanding that your items are safe. Just be sure you take your time and unwrap everything calmly while you unpack the boxes in order that nothing gets dropped on accident when the move is finished.
