Conditions are cramped and unpleasant, most flights are boring, and everyone is eager to get the ordeal over with. The way to keep these stress factors from getting to you is to focus on the fact that they are inevitable. When you eventually arrive at your destination they will melt away; try not to obsess over them on your way there.

If you are planning to travel to a country in a very different time zone to yours, make sure you factor jet lag into your plans. Having a low key, relaxing first day planned will get your trip off to a good start, and avoid you having to explore when all you want to do is sleep.

If you have plans to travel, the most important preparation you should do is make a checklist of everything you need from toiletries to extra articles of clothing. Before you leave, make sure that all of these items are packed because most likely if you forget something, the gift shops available to you will overcharge for simple things such as toothpaste or shampoo.

If you are traveling with children, it is best is they can have a suitcase with wheels. This way, they can really help with the luggage and it's super easy to pull. They will also feel a sense of independence and will be happy to help out with the luggage.

If you know you have to fly, do yourself a favor and wear shoes requiring minimal effort to take off. Don't pick that day to wear your eyelet wingtips with hard-to-tie laces. Women can wear clogs or slip-ons; men should choose a casual shoe style that can be easily slipped on and off with one hand.

Using the strategies detailed above will help you to become more aware of the traveling process and better prepared to tackle the challenges that await you.
