Fracking Helping Or Hurting?

By Darrel Jefferson

First of all, what in the world is fracking and why is anyone talking about it? Fracking is a new and efficient process that is giving America some hope at building the economy and gaining some more independence in the ways of energy production.

Fracking is a process designed to extract natural gas from rocks and fossils far below the surface. People have located the pockets of gas well below the earth's surface.

They are certainly not the biggest in the world, but they are the most well-known. They are iconic in history books for their size, beauty, and location.

The falls at Niagara are located on the border of Ontario, Canada and New York. It is found flowing from the other four lakes directly into Lake Ontario, via Niagara River.

The sand in the mixture holds the fissures open, allowing all of the gas to escape. The gas is then collected and sent off to be processed and sold.

That way, you will always have cold drinking water on hand and you do not have to run the tap while waiting for the water to get cold. Another thing you can do to conserve water is to fix the drips in your leaky faucets.

The process could help the economy recover and make America just a little more self-reliant. Others worry it will do more damage than good.

Environmental conservationists greatly fear what this gas extraction technique will do to the ground water available around large cities. The process is uncertain and therefore contamination of the ground water is very possible.

Whatever the reason to go though, the falls are truly amazing. To think that so much water collected from lakes, rains, and subsurface flow can provide enough water to make the falls thrive without a break for centuries is amazing.

You would think that the lakes and the rivers would eventually run out of water. Yet, year after year they continue to flow strong into the Niagara River.

Should they break through a wall protecting a pocket of groundwater, there would be nothing to stop the gas filled substance from mixing with the pure, useable stuff that cities use. And nothing the companies have developed has eased the worry that fracking couldn't do just that.

Doing this wastes an enormous amount of water. In order to better conserve water, be very careful with how much water you're using to water your lawn or wash your car.

Concerned critics aren't getting the support of the leadership either. An environmental protection agency administrator, Lisa Jackson, claimed that the process has every opportunity of being clean.

Even the President of the United States, Barrack Obama, mentioned that it had the opportunity to help out the U.S. economy. With those endorsements, the process is still allowed to continue, despite the fears of environmentalists. Their fears are yet to be proven, as is the defense.

Both the Niagara and Victoria Falls are truly wonders of the world because of their size, power, and endless supply of water. If you've been lacking an awe-inspiring moment for a while, go visit a local waterfall and just start thinking.
