Strange Phenomena in the Skies Above Alcudia Hotels

By Steve Alexander

People staying in Alcudia hotels have claimed to have seen several UFO's whilst relaxing on their balconies on holiday there. It makes it quite baffling that there have been so many UFO sightings in this region. Because many of the sightings have been captured on film, a variety of conspiracy theories have been propagated.

Most of this is generally associated with the United States of America, with places such as Area 51, Roswell and Dulce providing the setting for many unexplained events and accompanying conspiracy theories. It was only a matter of time before the aliens changed their favourite Earthly destination, and the Balearic and Canary Islands, especially Tenerife, are proving increasingly popular. Numerous tourists, unsuspecting on the balconies of their Tenerife hotels, have supposedly seen and caught footage of extra-terrestrial life.

Occurring in 1976, the most infamous incident in the region spanned Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Palma and La Gomera. It was witnessed by several hundred people and lasted for over forty minutes, which makes this sighting so memorable. Descriptions of the occupant life-forms described them as being nearly three-metres tall and dressed in red - one of the seldom UFO reports to describe the occupants.

This sudden rise in reports has not gone unexplained either, with conspiracy theorists hypothesising the wider, global increase in sightings to be a forerunner to a full-scale visitation. There has also been an increase in books on the subject, and many travel guides have begun using UFO sightings as a regional selling point.

Whatever the truth, the stories remain entertaining, and certainly add to the mythology of an already-otherworldly place. The fact is, UFO sightings will stay an integral part of Western subculture and conspiracy, whether they be genuine claims, hoaxes, or just people's desire to believe. But the next time you're staying at hotels in Tenerife or Alcudia, be sure to observe the night skies.
