Your Kids Are Going To Enjoy Dutch Wonderland Park

By Steve Johnson

There's lots to see and do in Lancaster but there is a special place to spend a fun-fulled day with the youngest members of the family. Dutch Wonderland Park is a clean, colorful theme park scaled down for the ten-and-under set. There are rides and shows and a water attraction but nothing is too big or terrifying for even toddlers to enjoy.

The park is small and compact. Attractions are close together so no one is exhausted from having to walk long distances. Rides are color-coded to indicate how tall riders must be but hardly any of the rides exclude anyone the size of a sturdy three-year old.

In most theme parks younger children watch enviously as bigger kids get to go on the most exciting rides. At Dutch Wonderland a proud five-year-old boasted that he had ridden every ride. Some of the rides such as the big roller coasters required that he ride with an older person but he wasn't excluded from any.

Young visitors are described as jewels. The smallest children, under 35 inches are Aquamarines. The tallest, at 54 inches and above are Rubies. Once parents have figured out what kinds of jewels their kids are it's easy to identify which rides are right for which children including the newborn infant.

Even the newest members of the family are welcome. Cottages are provided for nursing mothers to take care of their babies in air conditioned privacy. Each room has a rocking chair and changing table and an extra child-size chair.

A variety of services are provided to keep kids safe. There are id bracelets for children whose parents might get lost. Parents put their cellphone number on the bracelet but no names. Children who get separated from their parents have only to approach an easily identifiable staff member who will call the cell number.

There's plenty to eat at Dutch Wonderland in a variety of venues. There are standard theme park snacks as well as healthy choices like salads, yogurt and fresh fruit. Packaged products list ingredients including potential allergens.

Just ten minutes away from this happy place is Courtyard by Marriott, Lancaster Hotel. Families who have had a big day riding the rides and dancing at the Duke's dance parties can look forward to a refreshing night's rest in a spacious suite. Guest rooms have lots of family-friendly amenities such as refrigerator and microwave, high speed internet and Nintendo video games.
