Return of the giant ground sloth at Museum of Arts and Sciences, Daytona Beach

Per a newly released JournalOnline.com news story, the star attraction at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach, the skeletal system of a giant ground sloth will yet again be open to tourists. The sloth, that was brought to the museum in the year 1980, was unearthed by a few paleontologists in Reef Canal off Nova Road, in south Daytona in the year 1975. One of the leading attractions that lured in local people and also vacationers to the museum, the giant sloth skeleton was taken away from display after its exhibit area was flooded and destroyed by gallons and gallons of flood water.

One of the only five mounted skeletons of this variety, the specimen, which dates back to over 130,000 years, is thirteen feet high and nearly complete, except for a knuckle bone, and a bone each on its foot and claw. Fortunately, the skeleton of the giant sloth remained intact through the flooding and is now back on show at its temporary spot in the museum. For those who want a souvenir of the sloth, you could take home a die-cut sloth for $20 and kids could also take part in the exercises of the paleontology lab where they are able to sort and study fossils. The proceeds from the sales as well as contributions will go for creating a permanent setup for the giant sloth in the museum.
