So What's The Big Deal About Thanksgiving?

As a holiday, Thanksgiving is often overshadowed by Halloween and Christmas. Thanksgiving however is an important family holiday and looked forward to by all members of the family. Delicious food also plays an important part of the holiday with Thanksgiving dinner looked forward to all year long. Preparing and organizing traditional Thanksgiving Dinner often starts days before the holiday.

For large families, the women consider it a privilege to cook for their men as well as the rest of the relatives. There are also many recipes that are brought out JUST for this occasion.

If you live far away, you sometimes have to choose between visiting home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It's not always possible to travel home for both holidays. If you are faced with such a decision, one option is to alternate each year. They may make it home one year for Thanksgiving and the next year for Christmas. In terms of travel, its usually easier to book air or train tickets for thanksgiving Thanksgiving. Christmas holidays on the other hand do require that you book well in advance to have any chance of getting a seat.

Thanksgiving holidays are a favorite among a lot of people due to the four day weekend it typically produces. While a lot of businesses will open up on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, many will stay closed until Monday morning. This offers a lot more time to enjoy some visiting with family and friends. If you are brave enough, the day after Thanksgiving is considered to be the biggest Christmas shopping day of the year. In addition, you will also start to see Christmas decorations appearing through out the entire weekend.

But what if you are away from your family and friends at Thanksgiving? If you can't be with family and friends for this Thanksgiving then look for other parties and events to enjoy. There are usually lots of events and parties going on at Thanksgiving so there is no need to be alone. Being alone during the holidays can be tough but there are lots of other options to join in the fun. This means Thanksgiving 2011 too. There are still plenty of people who are alone at Thanksgiving. Who knows, you may be able to get a group of like minded people together and celebrate Thanksgiving together.
