What is the shopping like in Belize?

There are no shopping malls in Belize, because it's more of an outdoor adventure location. There are several opportunities to shop with local vendors and small shops around the country.

Shopping may really a fun experience for you if you want to experience a different culture and enjoy what the locals have to offer.

v You may find stores that are managed by the Chinese communities to family owned businesses. Shopping is a different experience in Belize then what we are accustom to in the United States.

v You may find jewelry, wood carvings, landscape and animal paintings, woven baskets, blankets, table runners and other interesting creations. The vendors make some of these items as you watch

v The colorful Mayan products and anything made out of the mahogany wood are my favorites. Take a moment with a local artist while they share their experience of why they make particular items, how they do it, and where they get their supplies.

Belize is a melting pot of different cultures. You will find Mayans, Mennonites, Creole's, Garifuna and Mestizo. The other groups are Spanish, English, Lebanese, East Indian and Chinese. It appears that Belize is family orientated and everyone in the country is related. You will find that the people of Belize are friendly, warm, and very helpful if you need assistance. Along with the natural beauty of the country, the people are what make Belize the special place that it is even today.
