Self-Catering: Holiday Parks In Cornwall

By Jez Smithson

Cornwall is a top spot for holiday makers in the UK. Each year, millions flock to the Southern most tip of England, to spend a few weeks among the marvellous landscape, gentle climate and beautiful beaches the county has to offer. For those who like to self cater, there's a massive selection of holiday parks in Cornwall to choose from.

Holiday parks can be found across the county, in various locations. Some nestle on cliff tops with views out to sea and over beaches. Others are set in acres of woodland or forest, offering seclusion for guests who want a little privacy. The types of accommodation vary from park to park and could be static caravans and bungalows, or wooden lodges, chalets and log cabins. Facilities will usually include a fully equipped kitchen, with cooker, fridge freezers and sometimes microwaves.

The living areas tend to have a TV as well as comfy furniture to relax on. Sometimes the lounge area is also used for meals. Many units are equipped with gas and electricity and have central heating for those chilly nights. Bed linen is provided, although holiday makers may need to bring their own towels.

Holiday parks have facilities for use by all staying in the park, such as shops, bars, restaurants and laundrettes. And many parks have outdoor swimming pools, indoor pools and sports facilities, like tennis courts. Equipment hire is often on offer for those who don't own their own. Cycle paths around the park can be found in larger ones, which often also have bikes for rent.

The majority of holiday parks are geared towards family holidays. Parents can often have some time to themselves, as kids' clubs, entertainers and supervised play areas are often a feature. In the evenings, many parks lay on entertainment for everyone, like discos, concerts and shows.

Prices are normally charged per unit rented, rather than per person. Prices of course will vary depending on the type and size of accommodation, rental duration as well as the time of year. Many parks offer special rates for short breaks, and may offer discounts for booking well in advance, booking online as well as last minute bargains. Many holiday parks in Cornwall are open all year round. Some offer bed and breakfast, half board or even full board options, for those who also want a holiday away from the kitchen. A lot of parks also have designated areas for those travelling with their own accommodation with pitches for motor homes, caravans and tents.
