Hawaii's Very Best Goods

By Keola Kawanako

Hawaii is a unique spot. It is located in the middle of the Pacific and is as far away from a continent as a location can be. It's home to many special animals and plants, and it also exports a number of distinctive products.

Would you imagine that one of Hawaii's major exports is bottled drinking water? Well it is true. However this bottled water is different from any other bottled drinking water in the world. It doesn't originate from a refreshing mountain stream. Rather it originates from the bottom of the ocean. Water, out of melting snow in Alaska, travels in an undersea current to Hawaii. This journey requires over a thousand years. Several firms extract this water, eliminate the salt and bottle it. Much of this one of a kind bottled water is sold in Japan, but folks from the U.S. are starting to purchase it too.

Another item that Hawaii is well-known for is anthurium flowers. These South American plants had been brought here within the 1800s and have become a huge sector of the Hawaiian economy. Many new varieties were created by local growers along with the university and they are shipped from Hawaii to many different areas of the planet.

Hawaii is also known for Macadamia Nuts, particularly chocolate coated ones. The Macadamia Nut is originally from Australia, but just like the Anthurium it has grown into a large component of the Hawaiian economy. These unique nuts taste incredible when dry roasted and lightly coated with sea salt or when covered in chocolate.

Kona Coffee is yet another outstanding export from Hawaii. Only coffee that's grown in the zones of North and South Kona can be called Kona coffee. Several factors help to make Kona Coffee unique. The initial factor is the fertile volcanic soil that it is grown in. This gives the coffee a distinctive aroma. The second factor is the specific micro-climate of the Kona area. Sunlit days and evening rains give the coffee an incredibly gentle flavor.
