Guided And Self-Guided Tours Of Miami Florida

By Teri Farley

Tours of Miami Florida are so thrilling because the city itself is so interesting and diverse. Every visitor can find something that seems particularly interesting. It could be a fully guided sightseeing city tour or one that caters to a niche interest such as foodies or beach-goers. There are innumerable options, including walking and bike tours, art deco trips, day trips and segway adventures.

First-time visitors to the city will want to hit all the famed attractions. The best option is a guided tour which takes people as a group to all the right places such as the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, Jungle Island, Coral Castle, Zoo Miami and Gator Park. Browsing and shopping in South Beach and on Lincoln Road is something that most tourists enjoy, so they are usually included in all the tour itineraries.

For those who prefer a less rigid itinerary, buying a multi-day ticket for a hop-on hop-off bus route is a better choice. These buses follow city and beach loops that include popular tourist spots. Passengers can get off at any stop and then get on the bus again at any point along the route at a later time or even on the next day.

The beach loop starts from Central Station and takes a round trip around the island of Miami Beach, offering fabulous ocean views on Collins Ave, Ocean Drive and South Beach. The city loop also starts from Central Station, and then makes its way through Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Little Havana, Downtown and other tourist-friendly districts. This bus route covers many of the aforementioned tourist attractions such as Vizcaya and the Art Deco District.

Day trips from the city are another option popular among tourists. It could be a visit to the Everglades to take an airboat ride and hang out with the 2,000 alligators at the Everglades Alligator Farm. It could just as well be a delightful and serene day spent exploring Key West.

Culinary warriors can pick and choose from a dazzling array of areas, restaurants and cuisines. It can be a Little Havana tour for a taste of breaded chicken toston and plantains followed by a Cafe Cubano. It could also be a South Beach smorgasbord with a sampling of everything from Colombian empanadas to Jewish deli fare and Italian gelatos. Many tour companies offer custom tours for foodies interested in specific culinary activities.

Fitness conscious visitors can opt for a bicycle or walking tour. This can be a stroll down Little Havana's Calle Ocho, or it can be an exploration of Miami Beach's art deco treasures. Many tourists can also be found rattling along in groups on segways along the riverfront or to various sunset points facing the ocean.

Those who want to get to know the city have a huge list of self-guided tours of Miami Florida to choose from. Just follow the GPS as it leads the way from one point of interest to the next in each area, along with audio to indicate what to see and do. Tourists planning to do this may want to get a Go Miami Card. It will be much more affordable than paying entry fees at each attraction individually.
