A new lifestyle or a new job with a working holiday visa

By Keira Glover

A working holiday can be a great option for people who are looking to consider relocation abroad or perhaps just for a change of scenery. If you want to earn money and continue travelling while immersing yourself into another culture and having the option for a holiday then this can be a great choice for you. Australia is just one of the many countries which offer a reciprocal working agreement with the UK and for many people it's a popular choice of destination.

For many people who are sick of the existing British weather, Australia can provide a great platform for potential migration and can offer a whole host of opportunities for both a new job and a new lifestyle. The country has an abundance of space, jobs and great weather - three very appealing factors for many potential migrants - and for many people once they have tried a working holiday visa there they generally don't look back.

Working Holiday Visas are available to Australia for a period of up to a year, but for many people this simply isn't enough time and they may consider wanting to further their stay as they enjoy their time in the country. This is possible and the visa can be extended for a second year if they complete three months in a rural working environment.

There are a number of ways that you could choose to undertake a three month rural work placement but most people opt to do fruit picking as an easy and often fun job which can be a great way to meet new people. This is a great way to give back to the Australian economy, although it should be noted that the wages for this type of job are not always ideal.

Your three month work placement must be signed off by your employer before you can apply for your second year visa but once this has been completed you are eligible to extend your stay. If you are looking at working and travelling then this can be a great option for you.
