Caribbean islands and Caribbean resorts are not all alike; and what may be the perfect destination for one person might be deadly for someone else. With more than seven thousand islands to choose from, what destination is right for you can be a daunting decision. But the upside is that - short of ice skating or skiing - Caribbean islands offer something for practically everybody. For couples there are lots of options, from the luxurious all inclusive couples-only resorts of Jamaica to the sophisticated resorts, pubs, and restaurants of Bermuda. The stunning cliffside resorts of St. Lucia's, with their breathtaking scenery and unique dining options, make this an idyllic couples paradise reminiscent of the South Pacific.
For family vacations you can't beat the all inclusive family resorts in Jamaica and the Bahamas. Aruba, with its friendly people and many options for off resort activities is also a terrific family destination. Families who like to explore off the beaten path enjoy the old forts, vintage railroad, and haunted plantations of St. Kitts and Nevis. Single vacationers who want to meet people and party flock to the all inclusive Jamaican resorts; whereas solo travelers who want to get off on their own enjoy the safety and easy transportation system of Bermuda (although the nightlife there is a bit lacking). Grand Cayman and Curacao are also destinations with good reputations for safety, especially for women travelers. Gay and lesbian travelers have not always been welcome in the Caribbean, but the French and Dutch Caribbean islands have reputations for tolerance; and Puerto Rico bars discrimination by law (San Juan has the best gay nightlife in the region).
If for you life is a beach, the exquisite stretches of white sand along Barbados' Gold Coast - with its luxurious all inclusive Caribbean vacation resorts - are a perfect choice. Aruba's Palm Beach, with its gentle surf and its wide array of water sports, is very popular with families. If you are seeking solitude, then consider the secluded beaches of the Grenadines. For scuba divers, the top destinations include Grand Cayman, Bonaire, Turks and Caicos, Virgin Gorda, and St. Croix; for snorkelers, the most popular spots are St. John, St. Croix, and Antigua. Windsurfers love the trade winds which caress Curacao and Aruba; whereas sailors set course for the British Virgin Islands or the Grenadines.
For party lovers, the best nightlife is found in San Juan Puerto Rico, which is the only true city in the Caribbean and is home to a host of fine restaurants, bars, dance halls, casinos, and cockfights. The best booze cruises and bar hopping are out of Barbados (especially Bridgetown, with its British pubs, discos, and restaurants). Gamblers flock to the casinos in the Bahamas, especially the Atlantis on Paradise Island; and also to Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Aruba. The top all inclusive Caribbean vacations resorts for all-night revelers (including some where nudity is de rigueur) are to be found in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
No matter who you are or what you most enjoy doing, there are Caribbean resorts and all inclusive Caribbean vacations packages which are perfect for you. An all inclusive Caribbean vacation is your doorway to a world of fun.
